Scientific Tonnage Selection of Marine Rubber Airbags for 800-Ton Ship Launching
September 28, 2026
In July 2026, a domestic shipyard successfully completed the launching of an 800-ton newly built working vessel using scientifically selected marine rubber airbags. Previously, the shipyard adopted empirical airbag matching, which easily caused uneven stress, hull tilt and airbag over-compression during ship launching. To eliminate hidden safety risks, the project team abandoned blind model selection and carried out accurate tonnage calculation based on the ship’s dead weight, slipway gradient and ground bearing condition. After load distribution simulation, the engineering team finally selected standard multi-layer marine rubber airbags with matched single-point bearing tonnage to support the whole launching process.
During the implementation, the team reasonably arranged the number of airbags and evenly distributed the overall hull load to avoid local overload. Compared with blindly using higher-tonnage airbags, precise selection effectively reduced equipment cost and avoided excessive airbag deformation caused by insufficient tonnage. With standardized inflation pressure control and synchronous cooperation, all airbags maintained stable bearing capacity during the lifting, sliding and floating stages. No abnormal pressure fluctuation, airbag distortion or hull deviation occurred throughout the entire construction process, realizing zero-risk load-bearing operation.
The successful launching of the 800-ton vessel fully verifies the importance of precise tonnage selection for marine rubber airbags. This case shows that suitable airbag tonnage not only ensures maximum safety margin for ship launching and hauling projects, but also optimizes project cost and improves construction stability. At present, standardized tonnage selection solutions have become the mainstream standard for modern shipyards, marine engineering contractors and port construction projects worldwide.
