Hongruntong Marine Load Testing Water Bags are engineered specifically for the unique operational rhythms and spatial constraints of modern shipbuilding and ship repair facilities. These water bags are manufactured from a robust PVC-coated polyester fabric composite selected for exceptional resistance to incidental contact with steel weld spatter, grinding sparks, and sharp edges that characterize the shipyard environment.
The standard capacity range spans from compact 2-tonne units suitable for jib crane and monorail testing to 110-tonne configurations capable of proof loading the massive goliath gantry cranes that dominate major shipbuilding centers.
A major shipbuilding group in East Asia commissioned a new 1,200-tonne capacity goliath gantry crane. The commissioning protocol required a proof load test at 125 percent of rated capacity, representing a total suspended test load of 1,500 tonnes.
Hongruntong Marine provided a solution using fifteen 100-tonne capacity water bags deployed in a purpose-designed spreader frame configuration. The total fill time for the complete 1,500-tonne test load was 4 hours and 20 minutes, representing a fill rate of approximately 345 tonnes per hour.
The load test was completed successfully under the witness of surveyors from two classification societies. The total project cost for the water bag solution was less than forty percent of the estimated cost for solid weight alternatives.

Hongruntong Marine manufactures standard water bags with capacities up to 110 tonnes as single units. For applications requiring higher individual bag capacities, our engineering department can develop custom configurations with capacities approaching 200 tonnes. For the largest gantry crane tests, it is typically more practical to deploy multiple 50-tonne or 100-tonne bags in a spreader frame arrangement.
Water bags should be thoroughly dried prior to folding, stored in supplied protective shipping bags, and placed in locations protected from direct sunlight and ozone sources. Purpose-designed storage containers including lockable steel boxes are available to provide additional protection against incidental contact, weather exposure, and unauthorized access.
Yes, water bags are fully compatible with conventional solid test weights and can be integrated into hybrid test arrangements. The rigging must be engineered to ensure proper load distribution and that the combined center of gravity falls within the crane's allowable envelope. Engineering support for hybrid arrangements is available on request.
Minor damage not penetrating full fabric thickness or intersecting welded seams can be repaired in the field using supplied repair kits. The procedure involves cleaning, applying cold-vulcanizing adhesive, and placing a fabric patch extending 50 mm beyond damage perimeter. Damage intersecting seams, involving lifting eyes, or exceeding 100 mm should be referred for factory evaluation and repair.
The bags are constructed from inherently non-sparking materials that don't accumulate static charge, but they are not certified to specific hazardous area classification standards. For tanker applications, use must be evaluated within the shipyard's hot work permit system and gas-free certification status. The shipyard's safety department should ensure all test arrangement aspects comply with applicable safe work procedures.
